Program is Finished
This project has kept me busy so I'm sorry for not keeping you up to date. This Friday is the BFA jury so it has to be complete. I'm extremely happy with the results so far. This past weekend I worked on staining the wood for the string to be tied to. After four coats and a bag of steel wool I am a little dissatisfied with how dark the wood turned out. If the project is accepted I will definitely work on the stain. I bought ace double sided carpet tape in hopes that it will be strong enough to secure the wood to the floor. That's really my last risk though, the risk of doing a program including graphics I'd never worked with before paid off. I finished the program today and it works really well. The frame rate isn't all that fast but its understandable for how much I packed into it. Fluid dynamics equations determining the velocity of each particle that is emitted from your hand's location. I guess now that I think of it i'll probably try to optimize the code for the BFA show too if it gets accepted. Then I can pump up the number of particles a bit. I've got the flex space until the 4th of March so I'm thinking an opening is due. Tuesday the 26th, from 6 to 9. I'm getting a little ahead of myself, I still have to install all the clear line between Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. I've got a couple friends helping me out for some pizza. I'll buy more if more people want to come out and help install, it's just a matter of getting on a ladder and tying string. Also, if you have a ladder it'd be awesome if you could bring it, can't have too many. Thanks for checking my project out! I hope to see you Wednesday or Thursday. Send me a message on here if you're planning to join the installation.

4 parts
There are four parts to this project...that I know of right now. Three of the parts are program based and the fourth is the sculptural. The program is made up of handtracking, fluid dynamics, and a particle emitter. Handtracking will utilize the kinect, fluid dynamics is based off the Navier-Stokes equations, and I'm yet to finish the particle emitter. Once the particle emitter is finished I will still need to skin the code to make it more aesthetically pleasing. The program is currently entirely physics based. The sculpture is the clear nylon line and catches projection with a shimmer, creating a virtual feel. I've got the hand tracking done, fluid dynamics done, and have started the particle emitter. The clear nylon line will be the last part as it has to wait until installation, otherwise I might waste more than I can afford. I have to work on the wood ends for the line to be tied between as well.

First Post
This project was started the third week of January. It will be a physical interpretation of the virtual world in which the viewer will be able to interact with it physically, creating virtual changes. The installation will be up February 22nd for the BFA jury and probably the next day as well. I was able to get a specific space reserved for February 20th through February 24th. The space will be filled with clear nylon line which will catch light from projectors. Using the kinect I will create a space for direct interaction from the viewer as well. The concept and visuals will be described in more detail in future posts so stay tuned!
